Focus on Rosas
Whilst Dance Umbrella 2005, with its France Moves intiative, focused on one country, this year's festival for the first time will highlight the work of a single choreographer.
Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and her company Rosas have been at the forefront of contemporary dance world-wide for more than two decades. Dance Umbrella introduced London audiences to Anne Teresa's choreography in 1982 when she and Michèle Anne de Mey performed Fase at the ICA. This year, Rosas will present extracts from this seminal work at the Barbican as part of its Steve Reich celebrations. Over the intervening 24 years, Rosas has been a regular visitor to the UK, performing not only in London at Sadler's Wells, the South Bank and The Place but also in Leicester, Glasgow, Brighton, Newcastle, Manchester and Warwick.
This year, with Focus On Rosas, Dance Umbrella offers festival audiences the chance to see the impressive range of De Keersmaeker's choreography in a number of different formats including performance, installation, exhibition and film.
